Dear Camp Lurecrest Family,
As you may be aware, we had to make the difficult decision to close all summer camps this year as a result of a summer staff member testing positive for coronavirus just prior to camper arrival. Due to the combination of expenditures required to prepare for camp and the sudden loss of revenue from cancellation, we face a significant financial need. As a result we have had to take steps to deal with these challenges, including closing our Charlotte office and reducing staff.
For three years, Kris Decker has served as the executive director of Camp Lurecrest Ministries, Inc. Today we want to thank him for his service as his tenure comes to a close. So many in our camp family have benefited personally from Kris' leadership, and he has made significant contributions to our ministry through discipleship, creation of new initiatives and partnerships, and the furtherance of our mission, vision, and values. Please join us in expressing our gratitude to Kris for sharing his gifts and talents with us, and as we wish him, and his family the very best in their next season.
Camp Lurecrest's overall leadership responsibilities will be transitioning to Dan Bragdon, who will continue in his role as camp director and now become our chief executive officer going forward. Dan is a highly capable leader who has served as our camp director for over two years, and currently resides on the camp property in Lake Lure with his family. Dan came to us with tremendous experience and expertise in camping ministry, as well as with pastoral training and a pastoral background. He leads with great passion and diligence, and we are excited to see God continue to work through him and our remaining excellent staff to love God, love others, and make disciples of Jesus Christ through camping ministries.
Additionally, to improve efficiencies and better manage costs, we are moving our ministry office to the camp property in Lake Lure. Our mailing address and headquarters will be Camp Lurecrest, 207 Charlotte Dr, Lake Lure, NC 28746. The camp office previously located at 10800 Sikes Place in Charlotte will be closed. Despite the need to close our Charlotte office at this time, we do intend to maintain year-round engagement with the community and families in the greater Charlotte area that have been, and will become part of the Camp Lurecrest family.
If you are receiving this email, it is very likely that Camp Lurecrest has impacted your life in a profound way. Perhaps you or someone you love is a different person today because of the saving grace of Jesus Christ and God’s work through this ministry. We also know that the Lurecrest family is very large, personally invested, and with the Lord’s help, capable of helping us through this season. We have been recently blessed by donations of camper funds during this time as well as by your prayers and support. We are asking you to partner with us for the future of this ministry and to prayerfully consider a donation. Please join with us and see what God will do. He has used this ministry mightily for 72 years, and we pray and believe He will continue to do so for many years to come.
