Camp Lurecrest Family,
This is a hard announcement following so many hard announcements you have received this year. For the last nineteen days Camp Lurecrest has been working diligently under the mandates of the government and the guidelines of the American Camp Association to prepare safely for summer camp. We followed our communicable disease plan, trained our staff, and trusted the Lord every step of the way to lead and guide us.
Several days after arriving on campus, a staff member learned that their parent had tested positive for COVID-19. In response, they and other staff members were tested for COVID-19 on Monday of this week. Today we were informed that the staff member in question tested positive for COVID-19. After discussions among our full-time staff and with the guidance of the Board of Directors, we have decided to close Camp Lurecrest for the summer of 2020, effective immediately.
We know this is hard, and we share in the disappointment with our campers, staff, and volunteers. Our mission as a ministry is to love God, love others, and to make disciples of Jesus Christ through camping ministry. In this case, the risks have now become too great to safely love our campers, staff, and community. It is out of love for Him and submission to His circumstantial leading that we make this decision. We have followed Him day by day and we continue to trust the health of this ministry to Him. Thank you for sticking with us so far into this process – we are thankful for your support this summer and into the future.
You probably have questions about refunds and payments. More communication will come about that tomorrow. In the meantime, please know we are praying for you and your campers as you navigate this time. We are asking God to use this, as He uses all things, to draw them closer to Himself and show them His love. Please pray for us and the summer staff as we pack up camp for this year and look forward to God’s provision in the future.
