Firethorne Country Club (Wachovia Championship Qualifying Course)
Each year, Camp Lurecrest hosts a golf tournament, played at Firethorn Country Club, for the express purpose of raising money for camper fees for needy children. Firethorne Country Club, located just southeast of Charlotte, is minutes away from the Ballantyne area. The heart of Firethorne Country Club is the truly magnificent golf course that meanders through the backdrop of a mature hardwood forest. Rock walls, creeks and ponds accentuate the beautiful views and natural setting.
Tournaments in recent years have proven exciting, fun and beneficial towards helping needy children realize they are of infinite worth in the eyes of Christ. For many, this time at Camp Lurecrest may be the only time they will ever experience or hear of the awesome work of Christ on their behalf. Camp Lurecrest is praying for $100,000 to be raised; 200 campers at 500.00 average camper fee.

Inaugural 2007 Champion's Camp Golf Tournament

On WWII’s infamous D-Day, surrounded by dying men on Omaha Beach, Alfred Garr made a promise to God: “If I live through this war, I will go back home and start a summer camp for the children of these men who will never return.” Thus was the birth of Camp Lurecrest.
Camp Lurecrest, with 1600 ft. of shoreline on Lake Lure’s Tryon Bay cove, will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. Countless numbers of children have come to Camp Lurecrest and learned of God’s great love for them.
Our Lake Lure family now has a wonderful opportunity! In 2008, Camp Lurecrest will host its first Champion’s Camp for children in the Lake Lure/Quad-County community. Our mission for Champion’s Camp is to provide an up-lifting and life-changing summer camp experience, specifically designed for children in our community who may have difficulty affording camp.
