The name “Emmaus School of Biblical Studies” is based on the “Emmaus Road” story found in Luke chapter 24. In this story two downcast travelers on the road to Emmaus encounter the resurrected Jesus as they discuss His recent crucifixion and death. The men are sad and disappointed by Jesus’ death because they had thought he was the Messiah. While walking together, the travelers’ eyes are opened as Jesus explains “what was said in all the Scriptures concerning Himself (v. 27 NIV).” Jesus reveals Himself to these travelers and their hearts burn within them as they begin to understand who Jesus really is; He is the Messiah, and the Messiah means so much more than they had ever imagined. In the same way, ESBS exists to bring students face to face with Jesus Christ through the study of God’s Word!
