Frequently Asked Questions

How early may I arrive on the first day of camp if I am not riding the bus?

Parents driving their campers to camp may arrive no earlier than 4:30 pm on the first day of camp. Gates will open at that time.  (Click here for directions)

Where do catch the bus? What time? (For those campers taking the bus to camp)

Please check in on Sunday at 1:00pm (which is one hour prior to our 2:00pm departure time).  All Charlotte Departures & Arrivals will be from our office location at the "Providence Park" office buildings, located directly off of I-485 at exit 57, at the corner of McKee and Providence Roads (across the street from the "Providence Promenade" shopping center).  Buses leave promptly at 2:00pm.  Buses will return with campers on the following Saturday by 12:00 noon.

Charlotte Office Address: 10800 Sikes Place, Suite 300, Charlotte NC 28277

May I visit my child during camp?
We ask that parents not visit campers during the camp week. Our busy schedule requires that our staff is undistracted in providing the necessary and safety-conscious supervision of your children. We do however, remind you that Camper/Parent day will be held on June 16th this year and is a wonderful opportunity to meet the staff and see the campground.

How many campers are in each cabin?
There are 8-12, depending on the session.

What is the camper/staff ratio?
The total, overall ratio is 2 campers to 1 staff. We have a total of 172 campers per session and a total of 90 on staff in various positions.

What Should I bring to camp?  Is there anything I should not bring?

  • Pillow
  • Towel & toilet articles

Is there a "cantina" or snack shop?  If so, how much money does my camper need for that?  What is sold in the 'cantina'?

Yes, we do have a snack shop.  We call it our Ranch HouseOur Ranch House is actually a snack shop plus much more!!  A camper's Ranch House account covers the following items:

1) Snacks - We offer snacks three times a day, but limit campers as to how much they can purchase...We don't want them ruining their meals! Snacks can be good, but too much of a good thing can make one sick!  :)                                                               (suggested amt: $15-25)

2) Crafts - Camp Lurecrest has a great craft shop.  We sell small to large items, many of which can be fired in a kiln and used to eat with back home!                      (prices range $1-15)

3) Gift Shop - Campers can purchase many items at our Ranch House, such as guitar pics ($.75), stickers, drinking bottles, Tshirts, hats, etc.!                                   (prices range $.75-$18)

4) Paint Ball Supplies - Campers in Middle, Senior Middle and Senior camp sessions can participate in Paint Ball activities with their cabins at no cost; however, they can also purchase Paint Ball supplies in our Ranch House at $5.00 a session to be used during their optional Free Time activities.                                      (price range $5 per Free Time Session)

(All unused Ranch House funds will be refunded  to you following your camper's camp week, unless at the time of registration you checked the box designating remaining funds to be given as a donation to children who cannot afford to attend camp without financial assistance. Please allow 2-3 weeks for us to process any applicable refund.)

Is there a dress code?
Modest clothing only please. No midriff tops, spaghetti strap tank tops, ultra-low rise pants, or or two-piece swim suits. Our desire is that our appearance and dress not be “worldly” but bring honor to the Lord Jesus.

PaintBall Questions -

  • Is there a Parental Consent Form Required for my camper to play PaintBall?
Yes, there is a Parental Consent Form that must be completed by a camper's parent/guardian in order for him/her to participate in PaintBall.  If your camper wishes to participate, this form needs to be signed and presented at the time of your camper's registration (when they depart via our chartered buses or when you drop them off at our camp location).  Please Note: At Camp Lurecrest, safety is our #1 priority.  All PaintBall participants will be required to comply 100% with our rigorous safety requirements.  No exceptions! (Safety gear provided.) (Click here for PaintBall Parental Consent Form)
  • Can my camper bring his/her own PaintBall gear?
Campers are allowed and encouraged to bring their PaintBall attire (ie., camo gear, gloves, etc.); however, all PaintBall participants are required to use Camp Lurecrest provided markers and protective masks for safety reasons.  Therefore, campers, please do not bring googles, masks and markers.
  • What Camp sessions will be playing PaintBall?

PaintBall will be offered only for Middle, Senior Middle and Senior Camp sessions.

  • What if my Camper doesn't want to play PaintBall?

Campers are under no obligation to play PaintBall.  If a camper is comfortable and desires to play, he/she will be afforded an opportunity to play PaintBall with their cabin during one Activity Rotation (at no cost). He/she may also sign up to play PaintBall at $5.00 per game during their Freetime Rotations.

What about camper mail and telephone calls?
Camper mail is delivered to and picked up from Camp Lurecrest daily. Campers love to receive letters and packages, but be sure to send them early in the session. Snail mail is even slower in the mountains!

Address mail to: Camp Lurecrest, Camper’s Name, 207 Charlotte Drive, Lake Lure, NC  28746.

In the event of an emergency please contact the camp secretary at 828-625-4673.

What about camper email?
Send emails to campermail@camplurecrest.org.  (Please note that campers will not have access to the internet to respond to email correspondence, but they will definitely enjoy hearing from you!)

Is there a nurse on the campground?
There is a Registered Nurse on the campus full time and emergency and medical care is within minutes of the campground. At least one staff member in every cabin is CPR and First Aid Certified. We are members of CCI (Christian Camping International) USA and adhere to their strict principles assuring camper health and safety.

What happens to my child’s medications when they get to camp?
All medications (prescription and over-the-counter) are given to the Camp Nurse. The Nurse ensures that campers receive it as specified.

In the event of an emergency please contact the camp secretary at 828-625-4673.
