Due to the generous support of individuals and businesses in the Lake Lure/Quad-County area (Rutherfordton/Buncombe/Polk/Henderson), many Lake Lure/Quad-County children will be able to attend summer camp at Camp Lurecrest - children who would not have been able to attend otherwise due to their families facing financial difficulties. Read below for more information on who can qualify, and if you are interested in donating!

History & Mission
On WWII’s infamous D-Day, pinned down by gun fire and surrounded by dying men on Omaha Beach, Alfred Garr Jr. made a promise to God: “If I live through this war, I will go back home and
start a summer camp for the children of these men who will never return.” Thus was the birth of Camp Lurecrest.
Camp Lurecrest, with 1600 ft. of shoreline on Lake Lure’s Tryon Bay cove, will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. Countless children have come to Camp Lurecrest and learned of God’s great love for them in Christ Jesus.
Our Lake Lure family now has joined together in efforts to reach out primarily to children in the Lake Lure/Quad-County community. Through generous support, we now have the Champion's Camp Fund, which will provide opportunities for an uplifting and life-changing summer camp experience, specifically designed for children in our community who could not afford to attend camp otherwise.
What Camp Sessions can Children Sponsored by the Champion's Camp Fund Attend?
Children sponsored by our Champion's Camp fund are eligible to attend any of our traditional summer camps as long as available space remains. After any camp session reaches capacity, campers wishing to attend will be placed on a waiting list.

Camp Lurecrest's camp sessions are a dynamic, adventure filled experience specifically designed to enable campers to encounter the truth of God's love for them through all that they do and experience. Furthermore, activities and events facilitate and strengthen the camper/counselor relationship, fostering an atmosphere where hearts can be captured and strengthened by Jesus Christ.
There are three scheduled activity periods daily. Campers might climb our 40ft. climbing tower in the morning, slide down our 200ft. water slide after lunch, and soar over our lower field on our 400ft. double zip-line before dinner! Activities at the lakefront and high ropes course are organized by cabin and supervised by a full set of trained and certified staff.
Most days begin and end with dynamic chapel services. Chapels include skits, multimedia presentations, wonderful worship, and relevant, Christ-centered messages from one of our camp pastors.
After evening chapel, campers enjoy a snack time and wind down with cabin devotions before "lights-out" and a good night’s sleep. However, there is always the chance for a night-time surprise, like "Capture the Flag!"
What are the Costs of Attending Camp Lurecrest?
Costs of attending Camp Lurecrest is approximately $450 per camper. However, as stated above, our desire is that no child should lose the opportunity to attend camp because they face financial hardship. Therefore, our goal is to raise enough money to enable those children to attend camp who would be unable to go otherwise. Depending on the camper's financial situation, they may be awarded partial - and sometimes full - scholarships to subsidize the camp fees, while funds last.
How Does a Child Apply for Champion's Camp Funds?
Champion’s Camp Funds are primarily to children in the Lake Lure/Quad-County community who could not afford to attend camp without financial assistance. (Other Scholarship Funds may be available for children in need who live outside of the Lake Lure area.)
If you are a family member or friend of a child who may qualify for Champion's Camp Funds, then please call our office at 704.841.2701.
